The Wisconsin Badgers confidently won 74:53 against the Chicago State Cougars

The Wisconsin Badgers continue their impressive undefeated streak against the winless Chicago State Cougars in Madison.

The Badgers played his first game since returning from a game played at the Greenbrier, which had plenty of electrifying moments in almost every game. Despite technical difficulties down the stretch, Wisconsin showed real heart and overcame a huge deficit to win the title. Now the Wisconsin Badgers must return to Madison before conference play against the Michigan Wolverines.

Brad Davison, 34, is introduced to Wisconsin Badgers guard before the first half of their game against Iowa State in the 2022 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament on March 20, 2022, at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee.

The Wisconsin Badgers didn’t win the game without a bit of a scare, however, as the Cougars maintained a tight seven-point game at halftime. The Cougars shot just 8.3% from three-point range in the first half, but made all six of their shots from the foul line. Chicago State frustrated the Badgers and forced five turnovers in the first half, allowing the team to keep the game close despite not shooting well from the field.

It was another solid win for the Badgers, but it once again raised the question of just how tough this Wisconsin team would be. The Badgers have shown heart and determination with multiple wins this season, but that hasn’t been a consistent practice in every game. Chicago State was probably the team that could have dropped 40 points to Wisconsin, but the Cougars were more likely to be able to keep it relatively close throughout the first half before the flood gates opened.

The second half of the game was all Wisconsin as the Badgers opened up the bench and allowed multiple players to receive quality minutes.

What went well for coach Greg Gard’s Wisconsin Badgers in their game against the Chicago State Cougars

The Wisconsin Badgers may have played the worst team they’ll play all season, but the team really put together some aspects that were previously a concern.

Starting with ball movement, the Wisconsin offense moved the ball incredibly smoothly towards the Cougars, recording four assists on their first five buckets. Wisconsin is still adjusting to its up-to-date offense and many players are working to develop chemistry, but the team is already miles ahead of many other teams that were in a similar situation this offseason.

Both Tonje and Crowl looked fantastic for the team and looked particularly good under up-to-date attack coach Greg Gard. Crowl distributes the ball like crazy, which greatly affects the overall condition of the attack. Crowl may have struggled with missing shots this season, but when he plays, the advantage he provides the Badgers offensively is enormous.

Tonje, on the other hand, was a versatile scorer on offense and even the Cougars couldn’t find a way to stop the defender. Tonje once again consistently drove to the foul line, which has been his most crucial tool outside of three-point shooting to this point. The guard currently leads the NCAA in free throw attempts and will likely continue to practice his foul magic for the rest of the year.
