Former Wisconsin Badgers star Frank Kaminsky is not currently on an NBA roster, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t energetic in sports.
In fact, he’s playing for something more essential, as he dons the country’s colors on the AmeriCup USA men’s qualifying team in 2024. Last Sunday, Kaminsky played a huge role in the Americans’ 97-74 victory over the Bahamas at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in Washington.

Kaminsky, 31, grabbed 14 rebounds, had seven rebounds and had four assists. He made five of seven attempts from the field and even made a three-pointer, finishing with a 23-point percentage FIBA website.
Meanwhile, former LSU Tigers star Javonte Smart scored 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting to lead USA Basketball, which also beat Puerto Rico last Friday. Against Puerto Rico, Kaminsky scored 10 points, adding three assists and two steals in just 15 minutes on the court.
“It’s been really good so far,” Kaminsky said of his USA Basketball experience after the win over Puerto Rico (via Cameron Kennedy of USAB.com). “Of course, it is difficult. A lot of us haven’t played together, and that’s a short time to learn everything we need to know.”
The Americans will wait until February for their next match, which will feature rematches with Puerto Rico and the Bahamas.
While he’s seemingly cheerful to represent his country, Kaminsky will certainly be considered a legend for the Wisconsin Badgers. He played for the Badgers from the 2011-12 season through the 2014-15 campaign. Over his final two seasons at Wisconsin, he averaged 16.4 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks while shooting 53.9 percent.
