The Wisconsin Badgers suffer a tough loss to No. 13 USC after holding a significant lead

After showing promise in the first half of the Wisconsin game, the Badgers allowed a potential victory to slip out of reach.

The Badgers Once leading 21-10 at halftime, the offense looked completely different. Wisconsin was making deep passes and was starting to stay true to the “blitz” style of offense the staff strives for. Quarterback Braedyn Locke looked confident and threw a deep touchdown to Vinny Anthony, something the Badgers haven’t seen very often over the past two seasons.

Wisconsin began to lose momentum as the second half began and never regained momentum on offense. The Badgers went on a tear in the second half after scoring three first-half touchdowns. Locke started to really decline and failed to connect with receivers downfield in the second half.

It once seemed like the Wisconsin Badgers were poised to beat the Trojans with plenty of the ball in front of them. However, the team was unable to sustain itself and made mistakes that would be tough to recover from.

Locke threw an interception that was quickly returned for a touchdown, essentially ending the game for Wisconsin. The interception took the wind out of the offensive sails and really kicked things off when the team was already down. The Badgers couldn’t recover from that and unfortunately handed the game to the Trojans because of it.

The game was also plagued by some questionable play calls on offense, most notably when the Badgers decided to go for a shotgun play on fourth-and-1. There is no problem with the shotgun formation, but the Wisconsin Badgers staff would rather run out of the shotgun than switch to the I formation.

What went wrong for the Wisconsin Badgers against the USC Trojans?

While the Wisconsin Badgers once had some momentum against the Trojans, they never really came back on either side of the ball after losing.

The defense stayed on the field too long after gaining great momentum in the first half against the Trojans. Great things can’t last forever, and the defense can’t spend the entire game on the field, which came back to bite the Badgers. The problems on offense have now spilled over to defense and are affecting all parts of the Wisconsin Badgers football team.

As the defense spent more and more time on the field, the Trojans were able to overwhelm the Badgers and find ways to score. On the other hand, Wisconsin was unable to keep its defense off the field and had to sacrifice compact drives and early punts far too often. The Badgers currently have far too many problems on both sides of the football and need to find a way to improve their situation.
