In this year’s tournament, Pittsburgh finished first overall, while Wisconsin finished second. The Badgers ultimately lost in the Elite Eight to Nebraska, while the Panthers lost in the Final Four to Louisville. In the final, Penn State defeated Louisville, which had to play without star Anna DeBeer.

Pittsburgh first-team All-American forward Torrey Stafford has entered the transfer portal, according to Talia Goodman. The 6-foot-10 sophomore led the team in hitting percentage (.358) while also ranking second in points per set (4.24) and kills per set (3.70). Stafford’s decision to enter the transfer portal was likely due to Pittsburgh losing seniors Rachel Fairbanks, Emma Klika, Valeria Vazquez Gomez, Cat Flood and Nisa Buzlutepe.

The Wisconsin Badgers should pursue Torrey Stafford
Coach Kelly Sheffield is dealing with the departure of several key players as seniors Sarah Franklin, Devyn Robinson, Anna Smrek, CC Crawford, Julia Orzol and Carly Anderson will not return. Additionally, Gulce Gectekin and Saige Dammrow entered the transfer portal and have already made commitments elsewhere.
In an attempt to restock the outside hitter, the Badgers have already brought in Grace Eagan and have a talented freshman named Madison Quest. Outside of those two, 5’11” Trinity Shadd-Ceres and 6’0″ Una Vajagic are the only internal options to replace the production lost with the departures of Franklin and Orzola. Torrey Stafford would give the Badgers their best chance to stay mighty in 2025.
