The Wisconsin Natural Resources Board (NRB) has adopted rules to create refuges around fish passages and spawning areas where fish are concentrated and vulnerable to fishing by anglers.
The board’s approval came Feb. 28 and will continue a year-round fish sanctuary that includes a modern fish passage at the Kietzsch Park Dam on the Milwaukee River. It also establishes seasonal fish refuges in state-managed walleye spawning marshes, protecting them throughout the Lake Winnebago system during spring spawning.
