‘There’s no doubt’: Bay Port wins first state title in program history

MADSION — Bay Port first-year head coach Steven Jorgenson had a message for his team as the 2024 season began:

“Even when we dropped and a lot of people counted us out, we fell out of the rankings in week two and never came back,” Jorgenson said. “I remember telling those guys that we were going to make people remember us in Madison, and we believed that. It really was like that. There was never any doubt in this group.”

And he was right. On Friday night, Bay Port defeated Muskego 25-18 to win its first state title in program history.

“It’s just crazy. “It’s such a surreal moment and we were the first – we as a program looked at the number that people kept playing on TV about no state championships and most wins without them, to end up saying that today,” Pirates senior defensive lineman Max Romenesko said , who picked up a forced foul that his team recovered in the third quarter. “It’s amazing.”

The Pirates jumped out to a 14-0 lead thanks to two rushing touchdowns from junior Brady Moon in the first quarter. The first was an 80-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. They never really looked back, even though the Warriors had a chance to tie it late.

Moon shined with 244 rushing yards and three rushing TDs.

“We had so much confidence coming into this game, and even though everyone doubted us and didn’t think we would get here, we just had so much faith in this team that we could get to this point,” Moon said.
