Berlin trap shooter RJ Gropp wins the Wisconsin Singles Championship for his category (Junior, ages 15-18) hitting 198 of 200 clay targets and will again represent the State of Wisconsin for the fourth time in the last 5 years in the Champion of Champions Event at the World Trapshooting Championships held at The Amateur Trap Shooting Association (ATA) Grand American World Shooting and Recreational Complex in Sparta, IL.
RJ, who is registered by the ATA is classified as a class AAA (98% and up) trap shooter in singles. Gropp won C & C Championship in 2020, and 2021 but did not win in 2023. There were 687 entries in the Wisconsin Singles championship held at the WTA Complex in Rome, Wis on July 13, 2024.
The 9 trap shooters that will be representing Wisconsin in The Champion of Champions Event (Aug 9, 2024) a Lady I Category (female younger than 55) Karla Klas from Potosi 192 of 200, Lady 2 Category (female over 55) Sandra Jo Jack from Altoona 198 of 200, Sub-Junior Category (male or female younger than 15) Jasper James from Knapp 195 of 200, Junior category (male or female ages 15-18) RJ Gropp from Berlin 198 of 200, Junior Gold Category (male or female ages 18-23) Logan Denman from Columbus 197 of 200, Sub-Veteran Category (male or female ages 55-65) George Hass from Fond du Lac 199 of 200, are Veteran category (male or female ages 65-70) Dan Campbell from Onalaska 199 of 200, 3 Senior Veteran Category (male or female over no) Dale Reigel 199 of 200, Veteran Chair Category Richard Tesker from Saxeville 180 of 200.
The Champion of Champions event is open only to the most recent state of Provincial singles championship Winner’ or Runner-up (in case of the Winner’s absence) Gropp not only won the Wis, singles championship, he won the Handicap championship 100, and was Runner-up in the Doubles 98 of 100, championship with a score of 98 of 100. He went on to win High Over All (HOA) 1054 of 1100, and High All Around (HAA) scoring 394 of 400.
Hundreds of shooters and thousands of spectators from 26 states, New Zealand, and Ontario, Canada were at the 2024 Wisconsin State shoot held at the WTA shooting intricate and Learning Center in Rome, Wis, on July 9-14. Many area Portsman and conservation Clubs such as Berlin CC, Fox Valley, Van Dyne, Weston, Wautoma, Westfield, Winneconne, Princeton, etc. had Ioal field Waupaca, several members participating in the many shooting events.
Lots of elderly friends renewed their friendships and many modern friends were made. A great time was had by all that attended. This was The 125 Anniversary of the Wisconsin Trap Shooting Association (WTA). br>
