Turkeys in Trempealeau County are shy, but in Wisconsin you can call them

If I had spent another minute clearing prickly ash to create a seating area under the giant oak tree at the edge of the field, I might not have had a chance to kill a gobbler during Wisconsin’s second turkey hunting season. Let me explain.
The morning of April 26 dawned clear, frosty and silent as I sat on the edge of a field in Trempealeau County. No swallowing greeted the daylight, and the only turkey activity I saw was the flight of two birds across the field.
