URGENT: Former Wisconsin Badgers quarterback signs with modern team

The Wisconsin Badgers will be entering the 2024 season with high expectations. Their first season under Luke Fickell certainly had its ups and downs. The Badgers finished the season with a record of 7-6 overall, 5-4 in conference play.

However, one Badger player who had a successful 2024 season will continue to play at a higher level.

The DC Defenders announced Wednesday that they have selected former Wisconsin Badgers quarterback Tanner Mordecai with the ninth pick in the 2024 UFL Draft.

In one season at Wisconsin after coming from the SMU Mustangs, Mordecai threw for 2,066 yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions.

After going undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft, Mordecai signed with the 49ers in the offseason and is currently preparing for training camp.

Mordecai’s future is uncertain. He is competing for a roster spot in San Francisco and could have an open practice squad if he doesn’t make the 53-man roster.

As a result of his selection on Wednesday, the Defenders now have his rights if he chooses to play in the UFL next year.

Over the course of his six-year collegiate career, Mordecai attended Oklahoma for three years, SMU for two years and then Wisconsin, where he spent his final season.
