The Milwaukee Bucks are off to a disastrous start in 2024. The team is 3-8 through its first 11 games and has struggled at times on both sides of the ball. This is extremely frustrating considering Milwaukee had to stay competitive to keep Giannis Antetokoumpo.
While there are currently no reports of an impending trade, those odds will escalate dramatically if Milwaukee continues to be uncompetitive at the NBA trade deadline.
The team that sends the right package might be the Houston Rockets.
‘Well-Positioned in Bidding War’ Bucks-Rockets Will Agree to League-Changing Trade
After finishing in the top five three times between 2021 and 2023, the Rockets have changed direction summer, focusing about veterans like Fred VanVleet and Dillon Brooks in free agency.
However, in 2024 he got lucky and won another Top 3 pick (Reed Sheppard Recruitment):
As a result, they now have both a juvenile core and veteran support. VanVleet, Brooks and a trade takeover at the deadline Steven Adams Sheppard’s flank, Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, Jabari Smith, Amen Thompson, Tari Eason AND Cam Whitmore; with a record of 7-4 so far in the 2024-2025 season, the Rockets are a pretty good team that hopes to grow into a great team. And thanks to the Greek Freak’s brew, they could do just that.
If Milwaukee had prioritized juvenile veterans in Giannis’ package, Houston would have been well positioned in the bidding war.
Dismantling the previous one James Hardenthe rival Rockets team also left him in a positive position for draft picks, with almost all of his first-round debts either paid off or forgiven.
The Rockets could therefore put together a good package based around (for example) Green, Smith, Eason and something closer to the “full package” of newcomers that has become the norm in superstar deals.
If that happens and they start with a lineup of VanVleet, Brooks, Thompson, Antetokounmpo and Sengun, their journey to the top of the West could be accelerated.
Here’s a recap of Giannis’ recent games:
