The Milwaukee Brewers’ roster is essentially set for the 2025 season. Pitchers and catchers will report in a few weeks, spring training games will follow shortly thereafter, and Opening Day will be here before we know it. With this in mind, let’s take a look at which players have no chance of playing in the lower leagues in the upcoming season.
Four Milwaukee Brewers players are out of minor league options in 2025
Looking at List of brewersonly four players from the 40-man squad have no chance of playing in the lower leagues in the upcoming season. They are catcher Eric Haase, reliever Vinny Capra, reliever Joel Payamps and reliever Nick Mears. This means that if Milwaukee wants to remove them from the 26-man energetic roster and move them to Triple-A, they will have to opt out early.
There are some notable players who only have one minor league option left
While that isn’t an issue this year, there are a few notable players who could find themselves in a hard situation next year if they burn up their last minor league option in 2025. Players who have one minor league option left are pitchers DL Hall , Bryan Hudson, Elvis Peguero, Aaron Ashby, Trevor Megill and Abner Uribe. As for position players, William Contreras and Brice Turang have one more option, but unless they drop dramatically, they should remain on the MLB roster throughout the season.
How do minor league options work?
We would like to remind you that every player has three minor leagues to choose from after making his MLB debut. This means that for three seasons, organizations can choose them between the major leagues and minor leagues without subjecting the player to waivers. When all options have been exhausted, or if a player is transferred from a major league to a minor league more than five times in one season, he must be subject to waivers. In special cases, players may be granted a fourth lower league option, usually in the event of an injury causing the loss of a significant amount of time.
