The Wisconsin Badgers finished the season with a 5-7 record, and one of the biggest problems for them this season was their quarterback play. Tyler Van Dyke’s season ended early due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament. Braedyn Locke has stepped in to start the majority of games for Wisconsin in the 2024 season.
He didn’t do well at all. At one point during the 2024 college football season, Badgers fans called for Locke to be benched.
Unfortunately for the Wisconsin Badgers, Braedyn Locke is currently the projected starting quarterback in 2025.
According to Brauilo Perez from badgerofhonor.combelieves Braedyn Locke will be the Badgers’ starting quarterback for the 2025 season for now. This would be a surprise considering he played poorly at Wisconsin overdue in the season. Perez said:
“As it stands, Braedyn Locke would be the starter if the ’25 campaign were to start tomorrow. Fortunately, that didn’t happen – Fickell still has plenty of time to bring in outside aid (we’ll get to that below).
Behind Locke is redshirt freshman Mabrey Mettauer, who many fans believe will replace Locke at the end of the season. Then, four-star signee Carter Smith and fellow ’25 signee Landyn Locke will also be on their way to campus, and Milos Spasojevic, a preferred player from 2024, will round out the package.
It goes without saying, but Fickell and his coaches will certainly look into the transfer portal to acquire aid for the quarterback room. Locke proved too many times last season that he wasn’t the best option to be Wisconsin’s center.
Many fans also believed that firing offensive coordinator Phil Longo would fix the situation during the season, but the problems on offense ran deeper. They cannot afford to start another season with Braedyn Locke as their starting quarterback.
Transfer portal
For the past two years, the Wisconsin Badgers have used the transfer portal to find a starting point guard, but it hasn’t ended well for them. Would Wisconsin find its starting quarterback for the 2025 season through the transfer portal? Time will tell what will happen.
Tyler Van Dyke was from Miami and Wisconsin acquired him last year. Two years ago they got Tanner Mordechai from SMU. There is currently no word on which quarterback the Wisconsin Badgers will want through the transfer portal. However, one thing is clear, Wisconsin Badgers fans will want to see head coach Luke Fickell’s tremendous improvement in his third season, otherwise this could be a major problem for them.
