The Wisconsin Badgers have found a up-to-date quarterback for next season Camren Hunter committed to the program after playing at Central Arkansas the past two seasons. Hunter committed to the program on Sunday. He said Jeff Potrykus from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, saying:
“I’m ready for work. Coach Gard likes my versatility – offensively and defensively. I can create for others, but also for myself. I can guard one, two or three, sometimes four, depending on how big it is. I’m very physical in defense.”
Hunter is a 6-foot-7, 200-pound guard. He’s from Bryant, Arkansas, and it’s interesting that he wanted to leave his home state somewhere in the Midwest. Cameron Hunter missed all of last season due to a foot injury he suffered in October.
During the 2022-2023 season with the Central Arkansas Bears, he averaged 16.9 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 3.9 APG, 0.6 BPG and 1.5 SPG. Camren Hunter also shot 42.3% from the field, 31.1% from three-point range and 78.6% from the free throw line. Hunter played 30 games for Central Arkansas this season.
The Wisconsin Badgers are taking a chance on Camren Hunter joining the basketball program
The Badgers are taking a risk if Hunter joins the program after missing all of last season with a foot injury. Wisconsin didn’t have top players listed in the portal, but if Camren Hunter stays healthy, he’ll be a very good fit for this basketball team.
He is a potential replacement for Chucky Hepburn next season and the team will need to replace his scoring as well as AJ Storr’s scoring. Head coach Greg Gard was criticized by fans for not placing any players in the portal before Hunter committed the crime.
It probably wasn’t the first option for them because they had different interests than the other players who were on the site. However, this will be Camren Hunter’s best chance of making it to the NCAA Tournament. Before Hunter committed to the program, many thought incoming freshman Daniel Freitag would be the starting quarterback next season, but that could now change.
He also told the media about his football injury and how he feels, saying:
“I have been 100% ready since January.”
The Wisconsin Badgers hope Camren Hunter will be ready to play when the college basketball season begins in November. Wisconsin also must return to the NCAA Tournament next season.
