Wisconsin Badgers football continues to grow as they try to improve on last season, but this time they decided not to look that far and brought in a up-to-date safeties coach from within their own group.
According to reports, it was assistant defensive backs coach Jack Cooper promoted to the rank of safety instructorh, the position was previously held by Alex Grinch, who is currently in Central Florida after signing as defensive coordinator.
Cooper’s promotion is just one of many moves the Badgers are making this season a disappointing 2024 in which they failed to bowl for the first time in 22 years.
This is not Cooper’s first rodeo in that department because he had previously held a similar position in Nebraska.
His biography on the University of Wisconsin website boasts of his achievements as a defensive coach.
In 2021, the defense’s first full season, Rhode Island’s defense has improved dramatically in many major categories. The Rams moved up from the national rankings in the following categories. Scoring (63 points), yards per play (87 points), defensive passing efficiency (57 points), yards per carry (72 points), sacks per game (68 points). Cooper’s work helped Rhode Island go 7-4 this season, the program’s most wins since the 2001 season 20 years ago.

While Cooper is not up-to-date to the role, the players he will manage are.
Badgers football has undergone significant changes this offseason. First, there was a up-to-date offensive coordinator in Jeff Grimes.
Secondly, the players who entered the transfer portal, most of whom played defense.
The Badgers have six up-to-date players who will be under Cooper’s jurisdiction. Among them are Matt Jung and Matthew Trayor, who were picked up from the portal and are expected to start playing on the team.
Other up-to-date recruits include Remington Moss, Grant Dean, Jaimier Scott and Luke Emmerich – all from the 2025 class.
