Wisconsin Badgers: Successful basketball coach inducted into the Hall of Fame

This weekend, former Wisconsin Badgers head basketball coach Bo Ryan will join basketball royalty when he is inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame during induction events on Saturday and Sunday.

Ryan is part of the Class of 2024 with Chauncey Billups (player), Vince Carter (player), Michael Cooper (player), Walter Davis (player), Charles Smith (coach), Seimone Augustus (player), Dick Barnett (player), Harley Redin (coach), Michele Timms (player), Doug Collins (associate), Herb Simon (associate) and Jerry West (associate). Bo Ryan has announced that he is retiring immediately as head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers men’s basketball team December 15, 2015after 32 seasons as head coach.

Bo Ryan won 747 college games, a school record 364 at Wisconsin. His Badger teams never finished lower than fourth in the Big Ten and never missed the NCAA Tournament. Ryan, a four-time league Coach of the Year, won seven championships and led UW to the Final Four.

Because Ryan was in his 15th season as Wisconsin’s men’s coach. The Badgers went to the NCAA Tournament in each of his 14 full seasons. Bo’s career in Wisconsin Platteville

In the decade of the 1990s, Coach Bo Ryan led Wisconsin-Platteville to an astonishing 266-26 record AND won the NCAA D-III National Championship in 1991, 1995, 1998 and 1999. Over the last 12 seasons, Platteville went 157-7 at home .

Bo Ryan was also the head coach of Wisconsin Platteville from 1984 to 1999. Ryan built arguably one of the best home-field advantages in history, as the Pioneers lost only five home games in a decade. IN January 2007the university named the basketball court “Bo Ryan Court.

Greg Gard has been involved in 502 wins at Wisconsin since joining the program in 2001. For comparison’s sake, the #Badgers won a total of 501 games in their first 39 basketball seasons before Bo Ryan and his assistant Greg Gard arrived in Madison.

Since 2001-02, when Bo Ryan and Greg Gard arrived in Madison, Wisconsin has owned the best Big Ten winning percentage in the conference, going 206-94 (.687). Bo Ryan’s first Madison team went 18-11 in the regular season and then reached the 32nd round of the NCAA.

Congratulations to Coach Ryan on this great milestone. We’re thrilled to see you take your rightful place in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame as your legacy is written in ink in the history books.
