One of Wisconsin basketball’s top basketball targets and recruits has announced that he will forgo his senior year to play OTE.
Kai Rogers, a four-star center in the 2025 recruiting class, is from Milwaukee and played at Wauwatosa West High School. Rogers announced today that he will be skipping his senior year of high school to play in the league OT Leagueor Overtime Elite as it is better known. The league consists of eight teams consisting of players aged 16-20, whose main sponsors are, among others: Gatorade AND GMC.
Wisconsin Basketball Target Kai Rogers joins the elite overtime league during his senior year of high school
He is entering his senior year of high school at Wauwatosa West, a four-star Class of 2025 Kai Rogers announced he would be joining Elite League overtime. The move to center means he will no longer attend Wauwatosa West during his senior year and would prefer to play on one of the league’s eight teams. Rogers is just one of many players joining the fresh wave of basketball that could potentially change his future in the sport.
How might the switch to OTE impact Rogers’ recruitment to the Wisconsin basketball team?
Confusing as it may seem, Rogers is not a professional gamer, but rather a member of a private, elite skill league. The player base consists of 16-20 year venerable athletes who have either already graduated from high school or are starting their high school careers in overtime.
The OTE League was founded in 2021 and has been in existence since then produced multiple NBA draft picks and top college signees. For example, Ian Jackson was ranked 10th in the 2024 recruiting class, and after playing for OTE, Jackson signed an NLI contract with University of North Carolina.
Rogers is still eligible to play college basketball, which means his decision to join the league will not affect the recruiting he receives from the Wisconsin basketball staff. But joining the league and getting a chance to play a year with a top team could attract Rogers to much bigger programs.
Will the Wisconsin Badgers basketball staff still manage to get Kai Rogers?
By moving to the OTE league, Rogers will likely put Wisconsin and the Wisconsin basketball staff on the back burner. Rogers will join the Overtime team on a scholarship that will allow him to maintain his collegiate eligibility. The powerhouse center doesn’t have any major offers outside the Big Ten or Big 12, which will surely change after his lone season in the OTE league.
