The Wisconsin basketball staff has not left the state as many 2026 and 2027 recruits have come out and proven their worth.
Among those who want to test themselves is the one who has the year 2027 Ben NielsenA native of Wisconsin, Nielsen attends Badger High School in Lake Geneva, where he also plays on the basketball team. Nielsen struggled to get on the court consistently last season as a freshman, but he has made tremendous progress heading into the upcoming season.
Wisconsin basketball keeping a close eye on 2027 class Ben Nielsen
As summer drags on, many college basketball programs have begun to get their foot in the door on the 2027 recruiting class. The rising high school sophomores have a ton of talent, and Wisconsin Basketball staff is committed to getting the workouts underway quickly. The Badgers started by scouting the great state of Wisconsin, which has produced a number of players they plan to keep a close eye on this upcoming season.
Among the players the staff will be keeping an eye on is a player born in 2027 Ben NielsenA talented basketball player with a range of skills on the court, Nielsen stands 6-foot-5 but plays more like a 6-foot-8 on the court. Nielsen cuts to the basket and creates open positions for himself and his teammates, using his size and length to his advantage.
The striker may not be the tallest or fattest player on the pitch, but Nielsen knows how to employ his body to his advantage and does it extremely well. Defensively, Nielsen is confident and feels his “tenacity” in coverage allows him to cover every position on the pitch. Offensively, Nielsen is an unselfish player who will kick the ball out and allow his teammate to take an open shot rather than force a shot.

Some recruiters have specific criteria that their potential home base must meet, and for Nielsen, that criteria includes winning. When asked what he looks for in a school, Nielsen said, “I want to be surrounded by winners and people who want to be better than anything. That energy is contagious and drives programs to be the best they can be.”
Nielsen is focused on constantly getting better, which is why he has set his sights on winning and winning something significant in college. Off the court, Nielsen has also consistently put in the work he needs to improve his weaknesses.
When asked what he felt needed to improve, Nielsen stated, “I feel like my biggest problem with my game is my ball handling and I need to work on that more.” To address this issue, Nielsen enlisted the aid of his father and brother, who worked with the forward daily during the offseason to improve his skills.
Could Nielsen be a future member of the Wisconsin Badgers basketball program?
While not every player who is scouted by the program ends up being a part of it, Nielsen is a homegrown athlete who could stay in state. Nielsen wasn’t asked about the value of location, but rather spoke about the value of the mindset of his potential college home. The forward wants to be in an environment that is focused solely on winning and getting better.
With the right effort from Nielsen and the Wisconsin basketball staff in the future, the forward could stay home and play for the Badgers. Nielsen has the potential to be the most decorated player to come out of Badger High School if he can put it all together moving forward. This athlete certainly has both the skills and the attitude to achieve his upcoming goals.
