Wisconsin basketball: Former Badgers star Frank Kaminsky has struck a deal with an NBA title contender

The former Wisconsin basketball star is reuniting with his former NBA team. According to Gerald Bourguet of PHNX SportsKaminsky joins the Phoenix Suns along with two other players.

“It’s official: The Suns announce they have signed Mamadi Diakite, Frank Kaminski and Moses Wood. Terms were not disclosed, but both players will compete for a chance at the Suns’ 15th roster spot. Diakite will wear number 25, Kaminsky will wear number 47 and Wood will wear number 17.”

Kaminsky is not a novel face of the Suns, having already spent three seasons in Phoenix. From the 2019/20 NBA season to the 2021/22 season, Kaminsky averaged 8.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 95 games (26 starts), while shooting 46.8% from the field and 34. 4% from beyond the arc.

As Bourguet mentioned, there is no certainty at this time that Kaminsky, who played four seasons with Wisconsin Basketball, will be able to make the Suns’ final 2024-25 roster.

However, it is not challenging to expect that he will beat Diakite and Wood in the fight for this place. Kaminsky entered the NBA in 2015 when he was drafted in the first round by the Charlotte Hornets and went ninth overall that year. In the summer of 2019, Kaminsky signed a one-year contract with the Suns that included a team option for the following season. Phoenix refused, but the Suns later waived him off waivers and signed him to another one-year contract. Kaminsky also played for the Atlanta Hawks and Houston Rockets.

In 2023, Kaminsky took his talents abroad, signing with Partizan Mozzart Bet of the Serbian Basketball League.
