Wisconsin Basketball is extending its first 2027 scholarship offer to an in-state star

Wisconsin’s basketball staff has extended its first 2027 scholarship offer to the talented in-state forward with a “surprising” offer.

Donovan DavisThe 6-foot-7-inch tiny forward from Kaukauna, Wisconsin, received his first major scholarship offer. Davis was previously an under-the-radar recruit, but after Advanced Skills Camp, Wisconsin decided to offer Davis. In a first move for the 2027 recruiting class, the Wisconsin basketball staff extended scholarships to in-state forwards Donovan Davis. Davis, who has recently shined on the AAU circuit, impressed the Wisconsin basketball staff and earned a scholarship. The forward had no offer before the Badgers extended one, and the Badgers did not extend any 2027 offer to Davis.

Because Davis is a 2027 recruit, the period in which coaches can speak directly to Davis and recruit him has not yet begun. So coaches can only express their interest in Davis through his current basketball coach. Davis stated, “Some other schools like Iowa State and UWGB have reached out to my coach.”

Both Iowa Cyclones and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix contacted Davis but did not offer a scholarship. When asked about the scholarship offer he received, Davis stated, “It was kind of a surprise to me that they offered it to me.”

For some, receiving an in-state scholarship can be a huge deal because you’ll finally get recognition back home. For Davis, receiving an offer from Wisconsin was a gigantic deal for a hometown kid, as he stated, “I’m really excited to get my first offer, and even better that it’s from my hometown team.”

When asked about the idea of staying home in Madison and continuing his college career, Davis replied, “It would be great to play for a program like Wisconsin someday.”

Davis is a versatile 6-foot-10 forward who can often hit taller defenders. The attacker can also get to the basket using a number of different moves.

For the Wisconsin basketball staff, the key to building a close relationship and ultimately landing Davis will be the future. Right now, Wisconsin can’t reach out to Davis directly, but extending the scholarship offer was a great way to show Davis how stern they are about him.

As a 2027 recruit, Davis still has plenty of time to impress schools and earn his ranking. Given his skills on the pitch, it shouldn’t take him long.
