The stud of Wisconsin’s 2024 basketball recruiting class, point guard Daniel Piąteksince joining the team, he has performed exceptionally in attack.
During the first open practice of the season, the Wisconsin media quickly took a look at the team, especially the standout players. While Xavier Amos was amazing for the team, Daniel Freitag was also great in attack. Freitag joins the team after star player and offensive weapon AJ Storr left the team after a successful season.
Freitag is ranked No. 129 in the 2024 recruiting class and leads Wisconsin’s incoming class. Joining Freitag in the class are three-star defenseman Jack Robison and Italian center Riccardo Greppi. Robison is the 192nd recruit in the 2024 recruiting class and the 40th compact forward.
In Freitag’s first appearance of the season in front of a crowd, the defender impressed with his attack throughout training. The guard is known for his exceptional speed in the game of basketball, as well as his shooting intelligence. Not only does Freitag have a wealth of knowledge about shot selection, but he also understands which lanes he should take and which players he can challenge.
If you want some juice from #Badgers practice.
Daniel Freitag was damn good attacking this afternoon.

While the Wisconsin basketball staff has added plenty of talent to the team through the portal, there is still some playing time ahead of them. Coach Greg Gard is well known for rewarding players with playing time because of what they do in practice. Given that Freitag has been impressive, a possible trip to the starting lineup as a first-year player may not be out of the question.
Daniel Freitag, a freshman basketball player from Wisconsin, could earn significant playing time
While the Badgers haven’t had the best starting track record lately, that could happen over the course of the season with Freitag.
Last season, true rookie John Blackwell impressed with his all-around skills on the field and earned solid playing time. Blackwell played most of his time as Wisconsin’s sixth man and was the starting defenseman off the bench for most of the season. However, Blackwell only started one game all season and that was due to injuries.
Many fans and analysts have argued that the Badgers could potentially benefit from starting Blackwell and giving the defenseman more minutes. However, it was a personnel change that never happened a season ago, despite the value he offered.
The same will likely be said about Freitag this season as he is an offensive catalyst but still needs to develop his all-around game. It may be some time before the guard can earn a starting spot on the Wisconsin basketball team.
