Wisconsin wildlife officials defended their decision not to set a difficult limit on the state’s wolf population in a fresh management plan before a Republican-controlled legislative committee, saying the difficult limit does not reflect the complexities of wolf management.
DNR’s Randy Johnson told the Senate Sporting Heritage Committee that the lack of a difficult limit gives the agency more flexibility in managing the species, allows for fluctuations in pack size and increases the population’s chance of maintaining wolf numbers in the years to come.
