Wisconsin football: 2026 in-state athlete receives electrifying early recruiting attention

The Wisconsin football staff has been keeping a close eye on a unique athlete from the 2026 recruiting class from Sheboygan.

2026 Quarterback and Outside Linebacker Blake Buhr has become a name the Badgers are watching closely. Buhr is a versatile athlete who once thought his college career would revolve around basketball, but now feels like a football player. The athlete recently sat down with Sports Heroics in Wisconsin employees to talk about how the recruitment process went and what its consequences might be in the future.

The Wisconsin football staff worked challenging to find the 2026 class, starting with the best in-state gems they could find. Among the players they kept in touch with and kept an eye on was 2026 recruit Blake Buhr. Buhr, a quarterback and outside linebacker, is from Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and attends Sheboygan North High School.

Buhr has been scouted on the defensive end of the field primarily by the Wisconsin football staff, who see his future as an outside linebacker. However, Buhr is also a talented playmaker who has plenty of promise on the offensive end of the field as well. The Wisconsin football staff loves Buhr’s versatility and sees him as a player to watch.

The athlete didn’t always have a passion for football, as Buhr began playing the sport in the 8th grade to accompany his basketball career. However, football quickly outpaced basketball and has since offered the athlete many potential opportunities. Buhr is still interested in playing basketball at the college level, but has given football more of a chance due to its potential.

Currently, Buhr maintains contact with the Wisconsin football team, State of North DakotaAND State of Iowa most of the time during his recruiting. The player received mail and such from many other schools, but he maintained regular contact with the three schools mentioned. Buhr was also in contact with Central Michigan and visited the campus as well.

What could Buhr offer the Wisconsin football team’s offense and defense?

Right now, it appears that Buhr will play outside linebacker in Wisconsin’s offense because of the skills he possesses at that position. However, Buhr is also a talented playmaker, and those skills should be emphasized regardless of what position he ultimately plays. Wisconsin football outside linebackers coach Matt Mitchell was part of the staff that tried to lead Buhr’s recruitment.

On the defensive side of the ball, the 6-foot-5 outside linebacker is a talented pass rusher with a wide range of moves. Buhr has plenty of power and strength to his game, but he also intelligently uses his reach to his advantage. The outside linebacker said, “When I come out of the line in a blitz, it’s always going to be a blast.”

On the offensive side of the ball, the long quarterback is able to reach oncoming defenders and make substantial plays. Buhr is a robust athlete, which has allowed him to pass the ball with ease and avoid getting dropped. While Buhr has shown a lot of promise on the offensive end, it’s the defensive side of the ball that the recruit is really trying to focus on improving.

The outside linebacker said, “I’m not afraid to be open and honest and say my coverage level was awful.” Buhr is a elevated player, and sometimes trying to get low enough to really make an effective tackle isn’t the easiest thing to do. The linebacker also wants to focus on his footwork and improve his game at a higher level before he reaches the college level.
