Wisconsin Football: 2026 In-State OT Shows Off Excellent Physical Fitness

The Wisconsin football staff doesn’t have to travel far to find a gem among the 2026 class of recruits on the offensive line.

Gavin Meier2026 offensive lineman from Janesville, Wis., has become a top in-state recruiting target for the Wisconsin football staff. Meier is a substantial, powerful kid who has a surprisingly quick surge for someone his size and build. During a recent interview with Sports Heroics in WisconsinMeier talked about his recruitment to Wisconsin, as well as what he expects from his future residence hall.

Wisconsin Football Staff Considers 2026 Offensive Quarterback Gavin Meier

Wisconsin Badgers coach Luke Fickell will be looking for a novel wide receivers coach, as Mike Brown announced he is leaving to join the Notre Dame coaching staff.

Once the 2026 recruiting period opened, the Wisconsin football staff quickly established ongoing contact with a recruiter from the same state. Gavin Meieroffensive point guard from Janesville, has been receiving a lot of interest from colleges since the end of last season.

Meier currently receives a scholarship from Northern Illinoisbut he was in close contact with a lot of substantial programs. The offensive lineman told Wisconsin, Minnesota, Northwest, NDSUAND SDSU were in closest contact early on. Meier was busy traveling between schools and camps when he visited Wisconsin, Oklahomaand NIU and others.

The substantial man isn’t exactly fielding offers yet, but he’ll continue to attract them as he continues to develop his skills and gain novel film this season. Meier revealed that his athleticism has drawn a lot of attention this summer as programs are interested in what he has to offer down the road. The offensive lineman said, “I’m a pretty big guy, and the fact that I can move the way I do impresses other coaches.”

For Meier, living in Wisconsin means growing up and watching Wisconsin football, memories that have stayed with the lineman forever. When asked what the offer and interest mean to a recruit from the state, Meier said, “Wisconsin has always been the team I rooted for when I watched college football.”

Meier wanted to make it clear, however, that this doesn’t mean Wisconsin is his top choice right now in terms of recruiting. The offensive lineman revealed that when it comes to recruiting, he’s more concerned about the front office wanting him than finding the right location.

What does the Wisconsin Badgers football staff need to do to acquire Meier?

In Meier’s eyes, choosing a college home will be about personnel, player development, and on-field success. While Meier said he’s grateful for all the interest he’s received, he ultimately plans to go to a school that really wants him.

Often, many recruits attend schools they feel they “need” to attend to become a better player, or they attend the local school they grew up in. However, that won’t be the case for Meier, as he doesn’t take many of those factors into account. When asked about factors such as location and prestige, Meier stated, “My goal is obviously D1, and I honestly want to go to a program that shows me they want me, it doesn’t matter where it is.”

For the Wisconsin Badgers football staff, acquiring Meier will be a necessity to show the novel recruit how much they are interested in him and what the program can do for him.
