Mason West: ‘I’ve Never Been There… It Was Cool to See Their Campus’
For West, the recruiting process initially consisted mostly of developing relationships with coaches and attending various camps. When asked what he looks for during the recruiting process, West stated, “Just how [College Football Staff Members] dedicate their time to helping others reach their maximum potential.
West also said it was important for the staff to “always be supportive, both on and off the field.”
The Wisconsin football staff has kept in touch with West but hasn’t spoken to the quarterback much yet. West did attend a camp in Madison and had the opportunity to compete against other top recruits and tour the campus. Asked about the experience, West said, “It was cool. I’d never been there before and it was cool to see their campus and compete in a camp.”
As the camp season continues, West indicated he hopes to attend camps with Michigan, Tennessee and Oregon in the future, but has yet to receive invitations.
What the Wisconsin Badgers and Big Ten Conference Rivals See in the Western Conference
For the Wisconsin football staff and many other programs, West could become a solemn dual-threat quarterback of the future. Meanwhile, last seasonWest has shown excellent field awareness, often eluding potential sacks and making correct deep throws. The quarterback not only reads the field well, but also has a great feel for incoming pressure, showing his mature intelligence in his class.
West also has impressive arm strength, regularly delivering 40-plus yard bombs down the field to his receivers with solid accuracy. Developing accuracy on long balls seems to be West’s goal, and it will certainly come with time as the quarterback continues to play. Perhaps West’s best attribute is his quick, uncomplicated throwing motion, which makes all of his throws look like he throws with ease.
