Tariq BoneyA three-star edge rusher in the 2026 recruiting class, Boney has become a player to watch on defense as his stock continues to rise. With the recruiting period opening last month, the Wisconsin football staff has shifted its attention to the 2026 class. While the staff continues to talk to recruits and develop relationships, one edge rusher stands out on the staff.

2026 3-star edge rusher Tariq Boney put his name on the map after a solid final season. While Boney is listed as an overachiever in most databases, his game on film is closer to that of an athlete, as he can rush the quarterback or stop the run as an inside linebacker if needed. Boney has become a true student of the game, as he spent extra time on the field and in the weight room last season to improve his game.

Currently, Boney talks most with Penn State, TennesseeAND Princebut also held talks with Wisconsin. When asked about interest from the Wisconsin football staff, Boney stated, “I think it’s a great school if you want to play big-time football, so overall, I feel pretty good.”

Tariq Boney: “In addition to competition, I also look at the educational aspect”

For Boney, the recruiting process has been sleek so far as he continues to scour schools to find what he really wants. When asked what he’s looking for in a school, Boney said, “Definitely the level of competition is really important to me because I think I’m a great player and to fulfill my dreams, I need to play with the best.”

Boney also stated, “Aside from the competition, I’m also taking the educational aspect into consideration because I want to go to a university that I can graduate from, and most importantly, I want to go somewhere that I can feel at home.”

While the recruit wants to make an impact in the field, he’s also focused on making an impact on his community in a meaningful way. Boney plans to study psychology when he goes to college, stating, “I’d like to become a therapist so I can help people deal with some of the issues they’re dealing with because mental health is a big issue in our community right now.”

What would the Wisconsin Badgers football staff have to do to sign Boney?

For the Wisconsin football staff, the key to potentially landing Boney in the future is showing what the school can do for him. The biggest aspect of Boney’s recruiting process is the school’s competitiveness both inside and outside the classroom. Boney wants to be challenged, but beyond that, the recruit also understands that challenging himself can be the key to becoming the great player he aspires to be.
