Wisconsin Football: Aaron Rodgers Stunned by Sudden Realization of Braelon Allen

Aaron Rodgers is very aware of being the elder statesman of the NFL. The quarterback may also feel his age more when he’s around Wisconsin football player and New York Jets star rookie quarterback Braelon Allen.

Rodgers has known Allen for a long time, but the future Hall of Fame quarterback recently admitted he was surprised when he realized how juvenile the former Badger is.

By Rich Cimini of ESPN:

I joked from the first time he sat down in front of me, Rodgers said. “I knew who he was when he drafted him. I heard about this 17-year-old kid playing at the University of Wisconsin when I was playing in Green Bay. I couldn’t believe it. I thought, oh, he’s got to turn 18 pretty soon. But no, he turned 18 in January of his freshman year. Now he’s going to turn 21 in January of his rookie year. It’s crazy.”

Rodgers continued to play for the Green Bay Packers during Allen’s first two seasons with the Badgers. By Allen’s third year in Madison, Rodgers was with the New York Jets, who acquired him in a blockbuster trade with the Packers in April 2023.

Allen is still finding his way in the NFL, but having someone like Rodgers around has to be a gigantic boost for the 20-year-old out of Wisconsin.

Breece Hall remains the Jets’ top option on the ground, but Allen could see his role expand in the coming weeks. In Week 2’s win over the Tennessee Titans, he had seven catches for 33 yards and a touchdown, along with two receptions, 23 receiving yards and a touchdown on four targets. That’s more than he had in his NFL debut in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers, when he had just four catches for nine yards and an attempted run for eight yards.
