The Wisconsin football team has completed its first practice before the upcoming season. It was a successful practice for the team.
Recently Big Ten Conference media day, the Wisconsin team and football staff expressed that they needed to get better in the upcoming season. In one brief showing to start the year, Wisconsin looked more fluid and well-rounded, entering another season under an experienced staff. Already on Day 1, some players seemed to be on the Wisconsin staff’s radar.
Wisconsin football camp begins ahead of tough upcoming season
The Wisconsin football team and its staff traveled to PlattevilleWisconsin for the next two weeks as they open preseason camp. The Badgers finished last season 7-6 and have since changed many of the team’s training and recovery routines.
Wisconsin Football Head Coach Lukasz Fickell is poised to turn his team around in Year 2 after failing to live up to his own lofty expectations last season. Fickell was critical of his team and himself a year ago, saying the Badgers needed to “do better” in all three phases of football. The first step for Wisconsin’s staff is to knock preseason camp out of the park and put the team in a much more prepared position compared to last season.
Wisconsin Badgers football staff keep a close eye on two active players
During the first day of practice, Wisconsin took most of their reps tardy and made sure they relaxed. The Wisconsin football staff is trying to take things tardy and make sure they focus on the fundamentals after struggling with the straightforward things last season.
Two players stood out during the first day as the Badgers staff continues to figure out each player’s role. Both are running backs Tawee Walker and defender Xavier Lucas both are unsure of places or game time for the upcoming season. Instead, each player is working to prove their skills on the training pitch in the hope that this will translate onto the match pitch.
Walker, who transferred from Oklahoma in the offseason, is someone Wisconsin is still trying to decide how to operate in the future. The presumed starting running back In Mellusia described Walker as “…the lightning to my lightning” when speaking recently about his running back. Walker showed good hands and solid field vision that will likely earn him a spot as a change-of-pace defender.
In Lucas’ case, the newborn defender is still working to prove himself but has already secured the approval of his teammates.
Can rookie Xavier Lucas make an impact this upcoming season?
One of the biggest stories to watch is that of freshman cornerback Xavier Lucas. Lucas, a Florida native, was recruited as a three-star prospect and committed to Wisconsin Miami (Florida) AND State of Florida. During the last Big Ten Conference media day, fellow cornerback and american football star from wisconsin Ricardo Hallman He stated, “I don’t know how they managed to get this man out of Florida.”
Lucas has shown on the field in his tiny time on the Wisconsin football staff that he is more than capable of holding his own. The active cornerback plays astute football and plays football at a speed that many other players can’t. Lucas’ ability to analyze plays and make things happen before the offense can get away.
While Wisconsin has a wealth of quality defensive backs at every position, it’s difficult to imagine a world in which Lucas doesn’t find a chance to see action in some capacity this season.
