Wisconsin Football Defensive Line Set for Impactful 2024-2025 Season

One of the best signings to come out of the Wisconsin football staff this cycle has established himself as a defensive player the Badgers need.

Ex Stephen F. Austin defensive line player Brandon Lane signed with the Wisconsin football program last cycle. Lane was once rated a three-star recruit and has since put up solid numbers on the field throughout his college career. Now in his third college home, Lane could become a stern threat on the defensive line for the Badgers in the upcoming season.

One of the bigger signings the Wisconsin football staff has landed that has gone largely unnoticed was that of defensive lineman Brandon Lane. Lane has a turbulent academic career so far, entering college as a three-star recruit and committing to South Dakota State UniversityAfter two seasons in the reserves, Lane moved to Stephen F. Austin where he quickly found playing time.

Lane was a star for two seasons on the Lumberjacks defense before re-entering the transfer portal in the offseason. The defensive lineman committed to Michigan State after a few weeks, but quickly backed out and re-entered his name into the portal. Lane then committed to Louisville for four days before he changed his mind and signed a letter of intent with the Badgers.

A series of other transfers and roster changes have led to quite the offseason for Lane, but now the defensive lineman will be playing for the Badgers. With a change of scenery and plenty of experience, the defensive lineman is ready to finally reach his full potential in Madison.

How can Brandon Lane change things on the football field?

For Lane, the easiest way to make an impact on Wisconsin’s defense is to get into the backcourt, as he usually does. Over the past two seasons, Stephen F. AustinLane had nine tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in a tender defense. The essential thing to note is that Lane was one of the Lumberjacks’ most productive players, which often led to double coverages that slowed Lane down.

On a better team with other players the offense has to worry about, Lane could become a much more impactful player because he won’t have to deal with additional blockers. The defensive lineman is a powerful, quick rusher who wears down offensive linemen with his persistence. Trying to effectively block Lane for an entire game will be a hard task when there’s no second blocker to assist.

Will the Wisconsin Badgers football defense be able to continue its solid play in the upcoming season?

A season ago, the Wisconsin football team produced arguably one of better defenses in college football, especially on their defense. Wisconsin allowed an average of only 208.62 yards per game through the air, along with an average of 6.49 yards per pass attempt. Touchdowns were also hard to score through the air against the Badgers, as opponents only scored 19 passing touchdowns.

While Wisconsin has had a lot of success defending the passing game, the run game has been a different story, as the quarterbacks have been finding the open lanes. Opposing offenses have amassed 135.2 yards per game against the Badgers, but have averaged just 3.4 yards per carry. Wisconsin’s football defense has also given up 313 yards last season, which is solid considering their struggles at times.

The main goal of the defense this upcoming season will be to limit essential plays, as failed attacks and wrong shots led to essential goals.
