Wisconsin Football delivers a solid 23-3 win over the tough Northwestern Wildcats

The Wisconsin football team had a mighty victory over a mighty Northwestern Wildcats team, largely due to their defensive performance.

The Badgers entered the match 4-2 and emerged with another victory after controlling the Wildcats’ offensive tempo throughout the match. Wisconsin narrow massive plays and stopped the momentum shifts that sometimes occurred after turnovers. The Badgers repeatedly gave the Wildcats solid field position, but the defense held firm and at times completely narrow the damage.

Quarterback Braedyn Locke reverted to some of his elderly habits against Northwestern, but to his credit, he faced a mighty pass defense. Locke intercepted the ball and lost another turnover against the Wildcats defense. The quarterback recorded 160 yards passing, one passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown.

While Locke had his issues throughout the match, he also delivered great results when it came to attacking.

The game between the Badgers and Wildcats was ultimately decided on the defensive end as Wisconsin shut down Northwestern’s offense. Wisconsin managed to give the offense excellent field position, which led to an basic touchdown. The score and the change in momentum the defensive unit caused would ultimately be too much for the Wildcats to get back into the game.

If there is one unit that the Wisconsin football staff can praise for its performance against Northwestern, it is the defense.

The Wisconsin football team recorded two sacks and seven pass defenses against the Wildcats as the air attack was completely neutralized. Wisconsin had only 82 yards and nine shots on target throughout the game, which was a great achievement for the defense. The Badgers achieved similar results defensively in the air against Rutgers point guard Athan Kaliakmanis and look to do the same against Penn State leader Drew Allar.

On the ground, Wisconsin allowed 127 yards rushing and averaged 4.1 yards per carry. The Wisconsin Badgers defense allowed running back Cam Porter to get into the hole at times, but often held him in place. The longest throw in the entire game was 29 yards and was made by the Wildcats quarterback.

Porter was already the centerpiece of the Northwestern Wildcats’ offense last season, and he has continued to perform exceptionally this season. By keeping Porter, Wisconsin put additional pressure on quarterback Jack Lausch to make something happen on offense. Lausch was unable to find an open attacker for most of the match, apart from a few route calls here and there.
