The Wisconsin football team wrapped up a two-week stay in Platteville and returns to Madison with a lot of questions ahead.
Badgers continue their modern tradition of visiting University of Wisconsin-Platteville to get a different look during camp. After starting camp with a lot of position battles and players to watch, the Wisconsin staff will now have to start making decisions about playing time. Here are three of those intriguing questions about playing time that the Wisconsin football staff will have to answer soon.
When will the Wisconsin Badgers football coaching staff announce their quarterback?
To wrap up the final practice in Platteville, the Wisconsin football staff held a practice game under the lights to assess where many of the team’s players were at. An crucial note about this practice game is that quarterback Tyler Van Dyke took over all the first team actions over another quarterback Braedyn LockeBoth are competing with each other for a starting position in a competition that seemed over from the start.
Despite Van Dyke playing all of the first-team snaps, Wisconsin football head coach Luke Fickell said both quarterbacks “…have a lot to offer the team.” Fickell still wouldn’t commit to a starting quarterback and insisted the battle was still on.
With Van Dyke taking the initiative and performing better than Locke, it looks like the Wisconsin coaching staff will wait until the team gets to Madison to make an announcement.
Which teenage cornerback will earn a significant role on defense?
The Badgers already have one exceptional cornerback Ricardo Hallman in their lineup, who is arguably the best returning cornerback in the conference. To accompany Hallman, a collection Max Lofy, Nyzier FourqureanAND RJ Delancy III.
The Wisconsin football team has a lot of room at cornerback this season as potential playing time is up for grabs and players are returning. Lofy impressed in camp and could potentially land the cornerback role behind Hallman. Lofy sat out last season with injuries after carving out a potential starter role.
Despite not playing for a year, Lofy impressed and showed no signs of rust, but rather a different determination entering the season. In addition to Lofy, returning cornerback Fourqurean was also fighting for a starting role. Last season, the Badgers’ starter for Fourqurean, who had an up-and-down season but finished the year with 39 total tackles and two sacks.
For Delancy III, a transfer to the Wisconsin football program from Toledo doesn’t guarantee playing time in the future. The senior struggled in his sophomore year Jonas Duclon and first-year students Xavier Lucas AND Loving Snowden to the role. Lucas and Duclona in particular have really stood out as potential depth pieces for Wisconsin this season.
Could the rookie running back be beneficial to Wisconsin Football’s offense going forward?
Wisconsin is pretty well-positioned on offense in terms of depth with seniors In Mellusia AND Tawee Walker taking on most of the action at that position. Wisconsin also has juniors Jackson Acker who can provide a powerful effect when needed, working alongside a group of first-year point guards.
Among the first-year players playing at the running back position, Darrion Dupree AND Dilin Jones both have been impressive throughout the early part of camp. In particular, both have shown a willingness to get involved in pass blocking and running routes out of the backfield. Wisconsin has a lot of options at the position, perhaps too many, as Nate White He will likely be moved to the wide receiver position, but the freshman could see action this season.
Both Dupree and Jones offer different looks from deep that appealed to the Wisconsin staff, but they don’t yet seem to deserve playing time. The freshmen still have a bit to prove on the field before they can make an impact.
