Since the start of the 2026 recruitment, the Wisconsin football staff has had its eye on the two-sport star.
Daylen Sharper, a three-star 2026 wing, is a talented football and basketball recruit with plenty of offers under his belt. Sharper burst onto the scene last season and earned most of his offers, but has since found success on the basketball court. During a recent interview with Wisconsin Sports Heroics, Sharper revealed his interest in Wisconsin and playing both sports simultaneously.
Wisconsin Football Targets 3-Star Two-Star Athlete Daylen Sharper
Heading into his second year of high school football, the 2026 three-star wide receiver Daylen Sharper received a scholarship from the Wisconsin football program. Sharper, an Arizona native, was a talented playmaker who showcases a variety of different moves on the court to get into an open position. The youthful point guard currently has ten scholarship offers from schools such as Arizona, State of ArizonaAND Iowa State.
Sharper stands at just under 6 feet 4 inches and packs quite a bit of speed into his long frame. Whether he needs to come out to play or get past his man to do it, Sharper will find a way to get what he needs to do on offense.
While Sharper was a great receiver, the athlete is just as great on the basketball court. Sharper has earned multiple basketball scholarships this summer and states, “I would say I’m trying to see what opportunities both sports can give me.” When asked which sport he would rather play or if he would consider playing both, Sharper replied, “For now, I enjoy playing both and I’m wondering which one I want to pursue in the future.”

For Sharper, one of the biggest reasons he got to this point is who he had on his side. Sharper, an Arizona native, maintains a close relationship with the legendary NFL wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.
When asked about his relationship with Fitzgerald, Sharper stated, “He is like a father to me, always holding me accountable and helping me be the best person and athlete I can be.”
While Fitzgerald helped Sharper reach this point, much of the progress is also due to the commitment and dedication shown by the recipient. Sharper revealed that he constantly spends extra time in training and focuses on compact details of his game that need improvement.
Can a sharper star be on both the basketball court and the football field in Wisconsin?
Being a two-sport star is incredibly challenging at any level, but the academic level has proven to be especially challenging. Other successful athletes in the past have considered playing basketball and football, like the Wisconsin basketball engagement Daniel Piatek or Orlando Magic defender Jalen Suggs. While both players considered playing both sports, neither player actually made both squads at the same time.
For Daylen Sharper, the idea of playing both sports at the same time is a very real possibility, but whether it will actually happen is another story. Sharper currently has no offers for either sport from a power conference. Minnesota has reached out to Sharper about basketball, but not football, and the Wisconsin football staff is the only one in Madison who has spoken to Sharper so far.
