One of the top cornerbacks in the 2026 recruiting class has been on Wisconsin’s football radar since the recruiting period began.
Tristan Phillips, a four-star linebacker in the 2026 recruiting class, currently holds 14 scholarship offers, including offers from UCLA, Notre Dame and Arizona. Wisconsin Football Targets four-star cornerback Tristan Phillips for 2026
In mid-April, after the season ended, the Wisconsin football coaching staff awarded a scholarship to linebacker Tristan Phillips. Phillips, a four-star recruit in the 2026 class, is widely considered the top defender in the class.
The linebacker stands on the field with a huge 6-foot-3 frame and packs a punch with his tackles. Phillips is athletic for his position, and due to his size, his rushing ability and attack range are excellent. Phillips also shows great versatility, and with added muscle in his frame, Phillips could potentially shift to an outside linebacker or edge rusher.
Phillips currently has 14 scholarship offers and has been in contact with multiple schools since recruiting began. Phillips stated that Wisconsin, Our Lady, Washington, Arizona State, Arizona, Kansas, California, University of CaliforniaAND Minnesota everyone contacted him. Chestnut AND State of Oregon have also joined the mix, but only recently.

For Phillips, the idea of playing for the Wisconsin football program is a very real possibility. Phillips admitted that Wisconsin has a long tradition of developing linebackers, which really interests him. The linebacker stated, “I rate Wisconsin very highly. As a linebacker, Phillips will join a handful of other talented players on the Wisconsin football team, which can often influence a recruit’s decision. When asked about this, Phillips stated, “It definitely has an impact on my involvement. There may be a school that already has multiple linebackers on its roster.
While the number of defenders may be an issue for Phillips, what he really looks for when recruiting is their quality. When asked what he thought was the biggest factor in recruiting, Phillips stated, “The coaches and players I’m going to surround myself with.”

For the Wisconsin football staff, landing Phillips in the future seems to be a priority because the recruit fits into the team’s expectations. Phillips is a powerful, athletic defender with the ideal physique for the position, and his play on the pitch proves it.
Phillips is currently the 24th linebacker in the 2026 class with a total rating of 89. With another powerful season under his belt, Phillips could potentially establish himself as a five-star recruit.
