The Wisconsin football staff recently added a active defensive lineman to its radar after offering a scholarship.
King Liggins, a three-star 2026 defensive lineman from Illinois, received a scholarship from the Wisconsin football staff early last week. Liggins is a massive, physical defender who is just scratching the surface of his playing time and potential. With another season under his belt, Liggins could move up to a four-star recruit.
Wisconsin Football Target King Liggins shows physicality, grinds on the field
With a scholarship offer from the Wisconsin football staff, the rising three-star defensive lineman in 2026 King Liggins still attracts a lot of attention. The recruit currently has 12 scholarship offers and provided a list of schools with which he is in closest contact. So far, Liggins states, “I have had the most contact with Kansas State, Kansas State, Iowa State, Iowa State, Wisconsin, Michigan State and Louisville.”
Liggins noted that the process has been “very good” so far and he has enjoyed continuing to develop relationships with various coaches. When asked what programs would generate “a lot of interest” from a recruit, Liggins said, “Probably Michigan, Kansas and Wisconsin.”
While it’s still early, Liggins noted that he has enjoyed his miniature time on the Madison campus. The defensive lineman stated, “I love the staff and the campus and I can’t wait to get back to campus.”

For Liggins, the difference on the field isn’t just size and playing style, but also drive and work ethic. Liggins stated, “What sets me apart is my drive and work ethic that keeps me working hard every day and getting better.”
The defensive lineman has the drive and desire to get better every day, which is both admirable and an attitude they want to see in collegiate programs. Major programs in particular love the approach Liggins brings to the table because of how well he can coach and because he doesn’t need anyone else to motivate him every day.
Could the Wisconsin Badgers football team end up in Ligins in the future?
While Liggins’ recruitment is just beginning, it’s never too early for the staff to start thinking about how to land a recruit. Maintaining a close relationship with Liggins will be key because the 12 scholarship offers he currently holds only scratch the surface. The defensive lineman also has two more years of high school football ahead of him, which will bring many more programs.
