The Wisconsin football coaching staff confirmed this morning that the talented freshman suffered a sedate injury during practice.
Former four-star outside linebacker Tomasz Heiberger According to reports from his coach, he suffered a knee injury. Matt Mitchell. Mitchell believes Heiberger will not be out this season and still believes the linebacker will return at some point. There is no specific timetable for his return, however, and Mitchell could not provide a clear answer on how sedate the injury might be.
Wisconsin football player Thomas Heiberger suffers knee injury
The Wisconsin football team’s staff shared some unhappy news today, former four star outside linebacker Tomasz Heiberger suffered an injury. Heiberger, a recent Wisconsin commit and current first-year player, suffered an undisclosed knee injury during a recent practice that sidelined him from the game.
Outside linebackers and special teams coaches Matt Mitchell revealed that Heiberger did indeed suffer a knee injury but will not miss the season. Mitchell also stated that there is no current timetable for the linebacker’s return. The outside linebacker and Mitchell have not revealed what the injury is and may seek more opinions before committing to a recovery plan.
Matt Mitchell Upbeat Heiberger Returns to Wisconsin Badgers Football Team This Season
While Mitchell announced that Heiberger is injured due to some sort of knee issue, the position coach also added that he and the rest of the staff do not consider it a season-ending injury. Perhaps the best news Wisconsin could receive regarding the injury is that it is not a sedate injury, meaning the newborn linebacker could return this season.
While he could potentially return this season, that’s more of an idea to be bullish about than a reality at this point. Mitchell noted that he’s “optimistic” about Heiberger’s return, but didn’t commit to a specific timetable for his return. Heiberger was in position to find sedate playing time early this season, which could still apply to the linebacker when he returns.
Will Heiberger be able to break into the starting lineup upon his return to action?
Before the injury, Mitchell believed Heiberger could fight his way onto the field based on his practice play. After breaking the news to the media, Mitchell was visibly upset, and it was clear the Wisconsin football staff had plans to utilize the newborn outside linebacker.
The good news, however, is that Heiberger is not expected to miss the entire season, meaning the linebacker should see the field for the Badgers. It’s still too early for the staff, as the injury happened recently, so a return-to-play plan hasn’t been created yet. However, it seems like Wisconsin plans to have Heiberger back as soon as he’s medically cleared.
It will be really engaging to see what time of the season Heiberger returns and when that happens, how much he ends up playing. The Wisconsin football staff could consider redshirting the linebacker if they feel he won’t be able to play much.
