The best game of the 2024 season. Wisconsin football begins preparations for another game this week. The Badges will travel to Rutgers to face the Scarlet Knights, who are currently 4-1 on the year. After their first loss of the season to Nebraska, they lose 14-7. Wisconsin football enters this game as a 2.5-point underdog. Basically, this game is all about the draw. Here’s what the Badgers need to do to secure a key road win.
Wisconsin football needs to stop the Rutgers Run game
Rutgers is looking to establish a running game and has a solid advantage to do so. Senior Kyle Monangai is one of the best runners in the country so far. He only does this in the running game, as he has already run the ball 116 times. He has had at least 19 carries in every game so far. Monangai is only 5 feet 7 inches statuesque but weighs 209 pounds. He’ll give Wisconsin football defenders a battle.
The Badgers defense has struggled against the run defense at times. They have to be able to get off the field. Good news? Last year, this defense allowed Monangai to rush the ball only eight times for 16 yards. It won’t happen on Saturday, but if Monangai closes, I like the Badgers in this game.
Wisconsin football needs to institute a run game
On the other hand, the Rutgers Run game has struggled this year. They are giving up an average of 156 yards per game. The Wisconsin football offense runs the ball an average of 170 yards per game. Nebraska was the first team that didn’t allow Rutgers to rush for 100 yards last week. A few weeks ago, Washington ran the ball for 207 yards.
This is a game where you need players like Tawee Walker, Cade Yacamelli and Darrion Dupree. I like where the offensive line is right now. The line is also the first line of the run. I expected to keep the ball as far away from Brayden Locke’s hands as possible and let the Badgers win this game in the trenches.
Win the turnover battle
The key to winning on the road in college football is not turning the ball over. Last week, Locke had two interceptions and looked like he was trying to force the ball. If Wisconsin football turns the ball over multiple times, it will lose this game.
On the other hand, I think this is a game where the defense needs to force some turnovers as well. Rutgers quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis has three interceptions this season. The Badgers lost twice to Purdue last week and seem to be getting back on track.
