Wisconsin Football: Luke Fickell Opens Up About Loss to Alabama Crimson Tide

After two straight wins over outsiders to start the 2024 college football season, the Wisconsin football team fell on a losing note on Saturday as the Badgers were outscored on both ends of the field and lost 42-10 at home to the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Wisconsin coach Luke Fickell was straightforward when he revealed after the Alabama game what he told his players about the embarrassing pass from the Crimson Tide.

By Jesse Temple from The Athletic:

“I’ll give you the same message I just gave them: If you’ve never taken a beating before, this is what you got,” Fickell said. “They beat us in every phase of the game today.”

Alabama was a weighty favorite coming into the game, even though the Crimson Tide were the visiting team. But Alabama still exceeded expectations as Kalen DeBoer’s team crushed Wisconsin in nearly every aspect of the game. The writing seemed to be on the wall early on for Wisconsin football when quarterback Tyler Van Dyke left the game as the starting quarterback with a leg injury.

In any case, the Badgers, who currently have a 2-1 record, will need to find a way to solve their problems before their next critical game on September 28th on the road against the USC Trojans.

“We know we have a hell of a long way to go to figure out who we are and what we can be,” Fickell said. “But I have faith and trust in these guys in the locker room. And that’s what you’ve got to keep going with.”
