In a game that Wisconsin football gave up in the second half, the Badgers need to regroup. This weekend they will travel to Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes at Kinnick Stadium, which has a college football atmosphere. Iowa wins 40-14 at home against Northwestern. They will also enter this game with a 5-3 record, but at the beginning of the season they had their hopes in the College Football Playoff. Starting at 6:30 p.m. on NBC and the second straight evening game for the Wisconsin football team. Here’s an early look at Iowa.
A one-man crew destroying on offense
Everything Iowa wants to do and will do on offense will be done by junior guard Kaleb Johnson. I think Johnson is one of the top two or three best players in the country. He is quick, physically robust and can do everything in the backfield.
Johnson has over 100 more carries than the next Iowa State running back and had more rushing yards (1,144) than Iowa State passing. Wisconsin’s defense won’t be fooled by Iowa’s offense. Problem? Iowa has a very good offensive line and doesn’t care about that. They will play the ball again and again.
Solid, experienced defense
This Iowa State defense is loaded with seniors and players who will play in the NFL. The heart and soul of this defense is American defenseman Jay Higgins. He opted to stay for another year when he could have easily moved on to the NFL. He is one of the best true linebackers in the country.
Other seniors expected to make an impact include linebacker Nick Jackson, defensive linemen Yaha Black and Ethan Hurkett, and sophomores Sebastian Castro and Quinn Schulte. These are all seniors. This is a veteran group that has played a lot of collage football and they won’t beat themselves. This Wisconsin football offense has to beat them.
Potential fresh quarterback for the Wisconsin football team
Everything indicates that junior Brendan Sullivan will start on Saturday night. It was graduate transfer Cade McNamara, but it didn’t pan out the way Iowa State fans and coaches expected. He tore his ACL last year and is currently dealing with the injury, but Sullivan has leg issues and was a goal-line quarterback.
I’m not sure how comfortable Sullivan will be in the pocket on Saturday night, but the Wisconsin football defense will have to account for his ability to escape the pocket. The Badgers will have the entire week to prepare for this, so it will be intriguing to see how they adapt as the game progresses.
