Wisconsin football staff looks to address costly offensive turnover problem in 2023.

One of the issues that plagued the Wisconsin football team’s offense last season was its turnovers, but the staff is particularly interested in turning that around.

Last season, the Wisconsin football team struggled with possessions and lost close, close games to weaker opponents due to sloppy play. The Badgers staff paid close attention to their possessions and will look to fix that problem heading into the upcoming season. With Wisconsin emphasizing keeping the ball unthreatening, the Badgers could see different results on offense in the future.

With a recent season on the horizon for Wisconsin, the Badgers are looking to put the past behind them and grow from last season. In particular, one thing the Wisconsin football head coach Lukasz Fickell he stated yesterday during media availability what needs to be fixed is the revs.

Losses are a part of football, but the Wisconsin football team seemed to be plagued by unfortunate losses at costly times last season. The Badgers staff believes that limiting losses is the first step to winning more games next season. The real question is what the Badgers are going to do to prevent the losses from carrying over to next season.

How can the Wisconsin Badgers football team reduce its turnover rate?

AND a season agoWisconsin averaged 1.3 turnovers per game, which ranked 54th in college football. Interestingly, Wisconsin turned the ball over the most on first and second downs, but had a third-down conversion rate of 44.22%, which ranked 22nd in the nation.

One key to limiting turnovers this upcoming season will be not only better decision-making, but also a comfort level playing at different tempos. Wisconsin has struggled to play consistently from game to game, or even drive to drive. The Badgers need to get comfortable playing speedy, comfortable playing from a defensive position, and comfortable just waiting out the clock.

The offensive staff understands this and believes that with a little practice the team can achieve success in the upcoming season.

Can Wisconsin effectively address turnover?

The Wisconsin football staff certainly has the ability to train its players to avoid this problem in the future. Wisconsin made a lot of mental mistakes last season while still learning a recent style of offense, and it showed in their statisticsLast season, the Badgers made 13 significant shots for a combined 5.4 percent success rate.

The Wisconsin football team essentially tested the defense only 13 times outside the 25-yard line, which was not the intended mode of operation for the offense in its first season. Unfortunately, injuries to quarterback Tanner Mordecai narrow his throwing power, but Wisconsin still made mental mistakes in the air rather than offensive ones. The real problem for the Wisconsin football team in the turnover department last season was fumbles, with 11 of its 17 turnovers being fumbles.

Ultimately, the fumbles were a combination of indigent ball security and mental lapses as players tried to rally. The Badgers played in close, close games last season, with every player wanting to be the person who can win the game. Wisconsin needs to focus on its own game and not get too caught up in making the substantial play.
