The Wisconsin football coaching staff has finally selected a quarterback after an uneven competition for the role.
Miami Hurricanes quarterback and senior Tyler Van Dyke has been named the starting quarterback for Wisconsin. The announcement was expected after his transfer to the program, but the staff insisted on holding a competition to earn the role. Van Dyke impressed and showed the skills the Badgers lacked last season during a 7-6 campaign.

In an announcement that had been expected for some time, the offensive coordinator Phil Longo Wisconsin’s quarterback has finally been revealed. The Wisconsin football staff has selected the Miami Hurricanes transfer Tyler Van Dyke as their starting quarterback for the upcoming season after battling for the position. Van Dyke faced off against former quarterback Braedyn Locke to the role of quarterback.
Locke showed talent last season, especially with arm strength, but struggled with a number of other issues. Van Dyke and Locke began camp splitting time with the first-team offense and repeating nearly every offensive snap. But in the final week of practice, Van Dyke played nearly every snap on the first team, essentially solidifying his place as the starting quarterback.
Van Dyke was expected to be named the starting quarterback after his initial trade a few months ago, but it was understandable that he first had to prove himself.
Van Dyke beats out Braedyn Locke to secure starting role in final season
Although it never looked like a real rivalry, Van Dyke initially had to battle Locke to secure the starting role. The Wisconsin football staff doesn’t believe in handing out playing time, but rather making players earn it. For Van Dyke, a fifth-year freshman, the quarterback still had to prove himself, just like the rest of the team.

The quarterback threw for over 8,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in four years with the Miami Hurricanes. While he never quite lived up to Miami’s expectations, the quarterback proved he had the ability to play at a high level in college.
