The Wisconsin football staff quickly sent out a scholarship offer in early March after watching film of a particular 2026 recruit. The four-star safety and linebacker Simon Caldwell was one of the top names in the 2026 recruiting class, largely due to his breakout season.

This last seasonThe 6-foot-3-inch guard recorded 137 total tackles, one sack and two interceptions, along with 11 tackles for loss. Caldwell lit up opposing offenses all season long and proved to be a true athlete with his versatility on defense. Since then, Caldwell has been in close contact with Florida, State of Florida, Miami, state of ohioAND Our Lady According to the recruit.

Initially, the Wisconsin football staff was not one of Caldwell’s primary recruiters, but they hope to develop a relationship with the athlete.

For Caldwell, perhaps the most critical aspect of the recruiting process is not just finding playing time at the start, but playing time that will make an impact. The recruit has made it clear that he wants to win, and running special teams all season long isn’t what he’s looking for. When asked what he’s looking for in a program, Caldwell said, “Somewhere where I can make an impact at the start.”

While the lively defender wants to make an early impact on the defense, he also wants to find a place where he can feel comfortable. Comfort is probably the most critical key to recruiting many teenage players, since it’s often the first time they’re leaving the place they grew up in. Caldwell, who has been around football staff members for a long time, wants to feel “at home” with his future staff.

What could Caldwell offer the Wisconsin Badgers football team on the field?

It shouldn’t be difficult for the Wisconsin football staff, or any program really, to find a role for Caldwell on defense early on. Caldwell has long been a standout on the field, thanks in huge part to his game intelligence and all-around skills. When asked how he stands out on the field, Caldwell said, “I’m a coach’s son. My dad played 11 years in the NFL and has been a coach for 16 years. My uncle was a coach in the NFL and is currently the defensive backs coach at Ohio State. With me, you get an extra coach on the field.”

Caldwell also stated, “Other than that, I think I’m one of the most versatile defenders you can find.” The versatility Caldwell refers to is his ability to play almost any defensive position. When Caldwell gets to college, staff members and coaches will have to make choices because the athlete is too talented to stay off the field.
