Wisconsin football: What went right, what went wrong in a devastating 42-10 loss

The Wisconsin football team suffered an unfortunate injury and offensive problems, which resulted in an impossible lead to overcome. Purple wave.

The Wisconsin football team is now 2-1 on the season opener after suffering a devastating loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide, which was largely due to their own mistakes. The Badgers stumbled four times and made a number of mental errors that allowed the Crimson Tide to take control of the game. Once Alabama gets going, there is no stopping them, and Wisconsin unfortunately learned that the difficult way.

The Wisconsin football team will have to go back to the drawing board after suffering a tough loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide. It’s not that Wisconsin expected to overcome the Crimson Tide’s brakes, but rather that the team expected to keep playing at a competitive level. However, mistakes on offense led to straightforward points for the Alabama offense, something Wisconsin could not allow coming into the game.

Wisconsin struggled to really establish itself on offense against the Crimson Tide, as they were required to do according to the pregame guidelines. Instead, the Badgers really shot themselves in the foot, as they turned the ball over multiple times and gave the Crimson Tide compact fields too often. Alabama is a rapid, intelligent team that makes the most of the other team’s mistakes, as Wisconsin discovered.

What did the Wisconsin Badgers football team do right and wrong in their game against Alabama?

Of course, it’s straightforward to start with the wrong things, but Wisconsin did a lot right throughout the game. Backup quarterback and now likely future starter Braedyn Locke struggled early, taking a few huge hits. After Locke made some mistakes with his ball control and his internal clock, the quarterback seemed to settle down and show some promise.

Outside of Locke, there wasn’t much that was “good” for the Wisconsin football team on the football field. Even when the defense started looking good, they were forced back onto the field by Wisconsin’s offense, which was turning the ball over. The defense was a step slower and far too inconsistent against Alabama, holding the Crimson Tide back on one play and then having trouble executing on the next.

The same can be said for the offense, as they were breaking up positive plays and then erasing them with bad fumbles. Wisconsin had no ball protection on offense, and even experienced players like Chez Mellusi were losing the ball, which is not a good look. Mellusi and the veterans struggling leads to another thing Wisconsin didn’t do well, which is play mental football.

The Badgers lost their mentality almost immediately, and it showed as the defense was constantly out of position. Alabama scored points with ease as the defense struggled to stay on the Crimson Tide receivers and stay on task. Stumbling as a running back is already frowned upon, but continuing to make that mistake as a veteran is also not a good look for Mellusi.
