Wisconsin Legislature Remains Indifferent as Chronic Wasting Disease Affects 60% of Counties

In delayed October, Wisconsin welcomed the Polk and Trempealeau county deer herds to its chronic wasting disease registry. As a result, only 29 of the state’s 72 counties have not had a single confirmed case of the disease in wild whitetail deer.
That’s one benefit of Wisconsin’s voluntary testing program: We can pretend chronic wasting disease only occurs in the 43 counties where it’s been documented, thanks to the 30% of hunters who have submitted to deer testing over the years.
