“Be open-minded, because there are changes in the future,” Natural Resources Board (NRB) Chairman Bill Smith told deer hunters frustrated with the 2023 deer season.
The board heard a preliminary report on the 2023 deer hunting season from Jeff Pritzl, DNR deer hunting program specialist, indicating that preliminary total deer harvests statewide were down 17% from the previous season. Hunter dissatisfaction, evident at several meetings in northern Wisconsin after the season, prompted Pritzl to encourage hunters to attend County Deer Advisory Council (CDAC) meetings this spring in each county.
