Because Ryan is the standard when it comes to sports in the state of Wisconsin. He may be demanding to imitate, but will you at least try to get closer to him?
Former Badgers basketball star and NBA player Sam Dekker is among those who felt devastated after Wisconsin lost to rival Minnesota Golden Gophers in the most embarrassing fashion. The Badgers gained just 166 yards in the game, a season low, going 7-24.
Ryan coached Badgers basketball from 2001-2015 won three Big Ten tournaments and won four Big Ten Coach of the Year awards.
Football and basketball may be different, but Wisconsin fans are proud of the fact that both college teams compete against each other. Until now.
Commenting on X’s post by other Badgers fans about how Badgers football will be trophyless this season, Dekker linked the novel era to the elderly one under Ryan’s lack of tradition.
“I think New Era Badgers Football has strayed a little too far from the tradition of Badgers football. Unfortunately, he doesn’t even move the needle to tune in,” wrote Dekker, who is reportedly trying to return to the NBA.
A tradition he could talk about, beyond the victories, is the energy on the field and the connection with the fans.

Another user defended the current Badgers team, saying that times from the Ryan era are different today, especially when it comes to recruiting.
Dekker confirmed this decision, but replied:
Bo Ryan won the Big Ten in his first, second and third seasons at Wisconsin. The third year was a B1G tournament, but the point remains the same. Do you know how crazy that is???? Game practice DOES MATTER. I don’t think any coach gets more out of his lineups than Bo, so the comparison is challenging, but still. https://t.co/TZG4E4yvkV

Dekker is a favorite in Milwaukee three seasons on the Wisconsin basketball team which led to a first runner-up finish in the 2012 NCAAs before losing to Duke in his junior year.
In 2012, during his rookie season in college, he was named Mr. Wisconsin Basketball.
