Unseasonably balmy weather, rain and high winds made for the worst ice conditions on record during the sturgeon season that began Feb. 10 on Wisconsin’s Lake Winnebago and higher-elevation lakes Poygan, Winneconne and Butte des Morts.
Christopher Shea, DNR supervisor, said the first weekend spear hunt numbers were about 10-15% of the normal season hunt numbers.
