Xavier Lucas and the Wisconsin Badgers football team are going through tough times moving away from each other and now things are gaining momentum.
The freshman defenseman announced in early December X that he would enter the transfer portal after a relatively successful individual performance for the Badgers.
However, his application to another team barely goes through, and he and his lawyer blame the school.
Prominent sports attorney Darren Heitner said they are elevating their case against the Badgers by talking to the NCAA about holding his client.
He added that they are ready for it take the case to court.
Heitner wrote on X:
“This morning, Xavier Lucas hired @HEITNERLEGAL. I have contacted the NCAA demanding that it enforce its rules requiring Mr. Lucas’ name to be entered into the transfer database. If the State of Wisconsin does not budge, we will escalate this matter to litigation.”
Heitner believes the Wisconsin Badger is obligated to trade Xavier Lucas
In an interview with NIL Daily, Heitner said the Badgers had no argument to keep Lucas because the player had met all the requirements he needed to enter the transfer portal.
The school needed only two days to process his entry on the portal, but it failed. Lucas announced his departure on December 21 and then available until December 28 that Wisconsin hasn’t placed him in the transfer portal yet.
“Wisconsin has thus far refused to allow Xavier to enter the transfer portal, even though Wisconsin is a voluntary member of the NCAA, which requires Wisconsin to follow its rules. “A federal judge has already ruled that it is illegal to harass athletes by limiting the choices they have in a given market to find a Division I institution that provides the best environment for their academic, mental and economic well-being.”
At this time, Lucas, who is one of many Badgers who have decided to leave the team after the unsuccessful 2024 season, is not yet available to talk to other schools. The consequence will be that his opportunities will be constrained or other interested schools will look for another player instead.
