Xavier Lucas appears to have found himself in a corner in his fight against Wisconsin Badgers football The Big 10 said it would support the school with an attempt to block his transfer to the Miami Hurricanes.
His lawyer won’t give up. In a lengthy statement to X, Darren Heitner wrote seven points in which he contradicts the statement issued by Wisconsin to discuss the Lucas situation.
The program said it was disappointed that Lucas was withdrawing from school under such unfortunate circumstances. She cited the agreement they had with Xavier regarding financial compensation and name, image and likeness agreements, which remains enforceable and which Lucas should abide by.
School too accused Miami of manipulation because he allegedly talked to the player before the transfer portal.
“We have credible information indicating that there was unacceptable contact between Xavier and staff of the University of Miami football program prior to Xavier’s request to enter the transfer portal. Direct interference with the player involved and the contractual interests of another institution is prohibited by NCAA tampering rules and law.”
Xavier Lucas’ lawyer 7 counterpoints
Earlier this month, Heitner accused Wisconsin of holding his client and preventing him from transferring to another school despite NCAA rules requiring football programs to honor an athlete’s request two days after announcing their intention to transfer schools.
Lucas announced he would enter the transfer portal on December 20, but eight days later he alleged that Wisconsin was preventing him from talking to other schools.
Lawyer exclaimed the statement from Wisconsin regarding NIL, claiming that their handling of the matter is “consistent with NCAA regulations.”
He also wrote that the football program only presented accusations without evidence.
There are many issues with Wisconsin’s statement:
1. It cites a “binding two-year NIL agreement,” but current NCAA rules do not currently allow institutions to provide compensation in exchange for an athlete’s NIL, and the agreement states that it is subject to NCAA rules.
