The 2024 Wisconsin Governor’s Fishing Open was celebrated on May 3 at Siren and May 4 at Yellow Lake in Burnett County, shining a lithe on Burnett County’s many natural resources. But one of the state’s most popular game fish, walleye, didn’t make it to the gigantic stage.
On the first morning, steady rain kept some fishermen inside, and those brave enough to brave the elements found a few eager walleyes. According to local DNR fish biologist Craig Roberts, the 2,283-acre Yellow Lake is the best walleye lake in Burnett County and also offers good muskie fishing.
